The Plaza Grande, also known as Plaza de la Independencia, is the central square at the heart of Old Colonial Quito. It was laid out in 1534 and still preserves its original dimensions. The square is surrounded by the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Archbishop's Palace, and the City Hall.
